If you ask me what I love most about calling Naperville home, I won't hesitate. It's the Riverwalk. I've walked it pushing a stroller, squeezed in a quick loop before school pickup, and I still can't get over how lucky we are to have this place in our own backyard. So today I'm sharing my personal, no-shortcuts guide to the best Saturday you can spend on it.

Start at Fredenhagen Park

I like to begin on the east end at Fredenhagen Park, where the clock tower and the fountain set the tone before you've even started walking. It's quiet in the morning, the light is beautiful, and it's a good spot to grab a coffee and just take a minute before the day gets going.

Wander the Brick Path Toward the Bridges

From there, the fun really begins. The Riverwalk winds nearly two miles along the DuPage River, and the covered bridges are hands down my favorite feature. I've lost count of how many photos I have standing under one of them. Time it right around golden hour and the light through the wood is something else.

Stop at Rotary Hill and the Carillon

Rotary Hill and the Millennium Carillon in Moser Tower are where I always tell out-of-town friends to pause. In the summer, you'll catch free carillon recitals, and there's nothing quite like hearing those bells ring out over the river. The Paddleboat Quarry is right nearby too, and renting a paddleboat for twenty minutes is one of those simple joys that never gets old.

Cool Off at Centennial Beach

Keep heading west and you'll hit Centennial Beach, a Naperville summer tradition since 1931. Whether you're wading in or just watching from a shaded bench, it's proof that some of the best things really don't change.

Wrap Up Downtown

By the time you loop back toward downtown, you'll be ready for lunch or a treat, and there's no shortage of great options just steps from the path. I love ending my Riverwalk mornings with a slow walk through downtown, peeking into shop windows and catching up with neighbors along the way. That's really what this town is about.

What This Means If You're House Hunting Near the Riverwalk

Here's the part I can't help but talk about as an agent. The closer a home sits to the Riverwalk, the faster it tends to move. I've watched it happen over and over: a walk-to-downtown listing in the historic district goes live, and within days I'm fielding calls. You'll find everything from character-filled older homes on the tree-lined streets east of the path to newer townhomes and condos built to put that Riverwalk lifestyle within a five-minute walk.

It's not just charm driving that demand. Walkability to downtown Naperville is one of the most consistently requested features I hear from buyers, and homes that offer it tend to hold their value well over time. If a stroll to the river and a short walk to dinner sounds like the daily life you want, it's worth starting the conversation early. Listings in this area don't tend to sit long.

Why It Never Gets Old

I've lived here my whole adult life, raised my kids here, and I still find something new on the Riverwalk every season. It's the kind of amenity that makes people fall in love with Naperville before they've even found their house. Honestly, I get it. It's a big part of why I never left, and it's exactly why I love helping people find their own front-row seat to it.

If you're dreaming about a life where a walk like this is part of your routine, I'd love to help you find your spot here in Naperville. Browse homes near downtown Naperville, get a free home valuation if you're wondering what your current home near the Riverwalk is worth, or reach out to start the conversation. I'm always happy to talk about this town I love.
